🎬 Real field footage: DJI Osmo Action 6 underwater test in the Maldives
The Maldives is a diver's paradise – turquoise water, vibrant coral reefs, manta rays, whale sharks, and luxury overwater villas. Filming underwater presents unique challenges: colour correction (red disappears first), housing reliability, and battery life in warm water. We spoke to Ahmed Nazeer, a Maldivian underwater videographer and PADI instructor, to get the real story.
Why it's great: UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where whale sharks and manta rays gather to feed. The plankton-rich water makes it a feeding frenzy.
Filming tip: June–November is the best season. A GoPro Hero 13 with a dive housing is perfect for action shots.
Why it's great: A cleaning station where manta rays come to be cleaned by smaller fish. They swim incredibly close.
Filming tip: Morning (8-11 AM) is best. Shoot in 4K/120fps for slow-motion glory.
Why it's great: One of the most accessible dive sites with stunning hard coral gardens and thousands of reef fish.
Filming tip: Macro lens (TG-7) is excellent for nudibranchs and clownfish.
Why it's great: The iconic Maldivian overwater villas with crystal-clear water underneath.
Filming tip: DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is great for villa walkthroughs and pool shots.
